- If the user encountered a problem after installing new software, or patches, or updates or driver, you can use the Last Known Good Configuration tool to resolve the problem. This will return the last state of the computer before any changes were done.
Procedures on how to use the Last Known Good Configuration tool:
- Restart the computer.
- When the results of the POST appear on the user’s screen, press F8 until the Windows Advanced Options menu appears.
- Select the Last Known Good Configuration option and then press Enter. Windows will restart with the old configuration settings
- If the restart is unsuccessful, the startup menu option will be displayed again on your screen. Select the Last Known Good Configuration again.
- If it still doesn’t work, try booting up in a Safe Mode.
- Use Recovery Console or reinstall Windows if the computer still won’t boot up.
