Error opening attachment in Outlook "Can't create file:"

"Can't create file: . Right click the folder you want to create the file in and then click properties on the shortcut menu to check your permissions for the folder."

APPLIES TO:
Outlook 2000
Outlook 2002 (XP)
Outlook 2003
Outlook 2007

SYMPTOMS:
When trying to open the message_zdm.html attachment from within Outlook, the following error is displayed:

"Can't create file: . Right click the folder you want to create the file in and then click properties on the shortcut menu to check your permissions for the folder."

CAUSE:
This error is caused by the fact that the hidden folder that Outlook uses to store temporary files is full.

RESOLUTION:

1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit in the Open box, and then click OK.
2. The folder location is stored in the registry in the following key:

Outlook 2000 HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\9.0\Outlook\Security

Outlook 2002/XP HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\10.0\Outlook\Security

Outlook 2003 HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Outlook\Security

Outlook 2007 HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Outlook\Security

3. Open the OutlookSecureTempFolder registry key from the location found in Step 2.
4. Copy the full path to the hidden folder.
5. Click Start, click Run, paste in the path from Step 4 and then click OK.
6. When the folder appears, you will want to delete all the files from this folder. DO NOT delete the folder itself, but only the files within it.
7. Once files have been deleted, re-open Outlook.

  2. For deciding such problem there is a recover outlook emails. It has some necessary opportunities such as using modern and intuitive interface, working with big invalid .pst files and saving recovered outlook data as a .pst file or .eml, .vcf and .txt files.
